Do you want to retire In Buriram? The province of Buriram is located in the northeast part of Thailand. The name Buriram means happiness. It is not your typical urban place where you can find bars and many places to eat.  But if you want to have a simple life, Buriram is a good place for retirement in Thailand or retire in Pattaya if you so wish.

Buriram’s Neighboring provinces are (from south clockwise) Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, and Surin. To the southeast it borders Oddar Meancheay of Cambodia. Buriram countryside is still very traditional and has lots of Khmer ruins.  One of the famous places to see is   Phanom Rung, a beautifully restored complex climbing to the summit of an extinct volcano. The most spectacular Angkor monument in Thailand, Phanom Rung is well worth the journey and should impress even those who’ve already experienced Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Buriram is a place with lots of culture and ruins to explore. If you are into history and ruins, Buriram is a great place to retire.

Buriram has a regional airport which makes it easy to fly to some parts of Thailand. Air Asia also offers promotions going to Buriram. Much of the local economy is still agricultural and the tourist industry is also picking up. Rice and cassava are the key agricultural crops in Buriram. Languages widely used are Central Thai, Laos and Khmer. Buriram has some of the major shopping malls like Big C, Makro and Tesco Lotus and Robinsons Department Store. These stores offer the basic needs of a family in very affordable prices.

Buriram Tourist Activities

Buriram is now making noise because of its football club, Buriram United F.C. which plays at New I-Mobile Stadium. Buriram has several sports projects underway. This is a place for sports enthusiast, especially for those who like cars and racing. Retiring in Buriram is quite different than other provinces in Thailand. Buriram doesn’t have beaches like Pattaya and mountains like Chiangmai but it has some sports activities which will soon to open in the next few years. They are calling Buriram to be the City of Sports by 2 years. Retiring in Thailand is a good thing.

Buriram United International Circuit (BRIC) Speedway construction started in March 2013 and opened on 4 October 2014. The track is an FIA Grade I certified circuit, suitable for Formula One racing,  and hosted a Japanese Super GT round in 2014.

Buriram is slowly putting itself to the map for sports. More new buses are going to Buriram because of the I-Mobile stadium. Festivals are becoming bigger and better celebrated in Buriram.  The stadium can accommodate more people during festivals.  This gives Buriram in giving a new style for celebrating famous festivals in the country.

Also Buriram has golf clubs for expats. The Buriram Golf Society has members who are mostly expats and retirees. Buriram is also active in running, biking and swimming activities. These activities promote camaraderie among locals and expats that result to more health benefits to all. Buriram is good place to retire because it gives people options what kind of exercise of lifestyle one wants to experience during retirement.

Retirement doesn’t mean just sitting down and waiting for the days to come. Truly, Buriram offers a lot of things to do that will improve one’s social life at the same while being healthier and happier.
